Middle Fork of the White River: S Harris Dr. to Strain Comm Rd

Middle Fork of the White River near Elkins, AR

Are you looking for an undemanding float that is great when most stream flows are too high? Do you live in the Fayetteville area and want a quick 2 mile float? Look no further then the Middle Fork of the White River from S Harris Dr. to Strain Comm Rd. This stretch of stream is immediately outside of Elkins. Most of the year, the Middle Fork is trickle of a river. However, when spring rains come, this stream becomes a welcome opportunity for paddlers/fisherman. Just like anywhere else, the water can be dangerous if TOO high. There isn't a USGS stream gauge on the Middle Fork but checking the other forks of the White River can give a decent indication of the discharge. As for fishing, I have caught some NICE bass on this stretch. One trip, I couldn't seem to keep the largemouth off the end of my line but other trips seemed to be better for the smallies. My most recent trip on the Middle Fork yielded a 17.5 inch smallmouth. That goes to show you that even tiny streams like the Middle Fork can contain high caliber smallmouth bass!

Here are two pictures of the same 17.5 inch smallmouth I caught on the Middle Fork of the White River

Dad managed to catch himself a good one as well!

I hope this information was useful! Thanks for reading and get to fishing!
